Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan has now become a true mass movement, driven by the active participation of citizens across the country.
Addressing the nation, PM Modi emphasized that the campaign is no longer limited to government efforts but has evolved into a people-powered mission. He highlighted that drug abuse poses a serious threat to India’s youth and society, and collective resolve is essential to eliminate this menace.
Launched on 15 August 2020 by the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, the Abhiyan follows a three-pronged strategy—supply control, demand reduction, and medical treatment. Over 15.58 crore people have been sensitised, including 5.20 crore youth and 3.30 crore women, while more than 27.76 lakh individuals have received treatment through 730+ free centres nationwide.
PM Modi noted that the campaign is laying the foundation for a Viksit Bharat (Developed India), as a drug-free society is crucial for national progress. He urged citizens, especially young people, to join hands in strengthening this mission.
Recently, the Nasha Mukt Bharat Saptah 2026 was observed from 17–26 June under the theme “Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan – Viksit Bharat Ki Pehchaan.” Union Minister Virendra Kumar also launched a digital dashboard to empower Nasha Mukti Mitr volunteers with real-time tools for outreach and monitoring.
With growing public participation, the campaign is being seen as a transformative social movement, reinforcing India’s collective determination to build a healthier and stronger future.
