Chandigarh, November 12, 2025: Punjab has achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first state in India to implement the amended Bharat Net Scheme across its entire territory. The initiative, launched under the Ministry of Communications, aims to provide high-speed broadband connectivity to every village, thereby bridging the digital divide and empowering rural communities.
The amended Bharat Net Scheme focuses on strengthening digital infrastructure, expanding fiber-optic networks, and ensuring affordable internet access for citizens. With its statewide rollout, Punjab has set a benchmark for other states in adopting technology-driven governance and inclusive development.
Chief Minister and senior officials highlighted that the scheme will revolutionize rural education, healthcare, and agriculture by enabling digital services and e-governance platforms. Farmers will benefit from real-time market information, students will gain access to online learning resources, and healthcare facilities will be able to extend telemedicine services to remote areas.
“Punjab’s leadership in implementing the amended Bharat Net Scheme reflects our commitment to digital empowerment and inclusive growth. This initiative will transform rural connectivity and ensure that every citizen has access to the opportunities of the digital age,” said a government spokesperson.
The Department of Telecommunications confirmed that the project includes robust monitoring mechanisms, partnerships with private service providers, and training programs to enhance digital literacy among rural populations. The scheme is expected to significantly boost socio-economic development and contribute to India’s vision of a digitally empowered society.
