Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has said that micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) are emerging as an important pillar of India’s defence manufacturing sector. He highlighted their growing role in innovation, advanced technologies, and self-reliance during his address at the National Defence Industries Conclave in New Delhi.
Singh noted that MSMEs are contributing significantly to areas such as artificial intelligence, robotics, automation, and drone technologies. He emphasized that their participation is strengthening India’s defence ecosystem while also boosting the national economy.
The minister assured innovators, start-ups, and MSMEs of full government support, stressing that their involvement is crucial for achieving the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat in defence production. He added that India aims to become a global hub for drone manufacturing by 2030, with MSMEs playing a central role in this effort.
Referencing ongoing global conflicts, including the Russia-Ukraine war and tensions in West Asia, Singh underlined the importance of indigenous defence manufacturing to ensure strategic autonomy and preparedness. He said MSMEs are vital in reducing dependence on imports and enhancing India’s defence capabilities.
Observers believe Singh’s remarks reflect the government’s broader strategy to integrate MSMEs into the defence supply chain, thereby fostering innovation, job creation, and resilience in critical sectors.
