Moscow, November 12, 2025: The Government of the Russian Federation has announced an entry ban on 30 Japanese nationals in direct retaliation to sanctions imposed by Tokyo. The decision underscores escalating tensions between the two nations following Japan’s recent measures targeting Russian officials and institutions.
According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, the restrictions are aimed at individuals deemed responsible for advancing policies that undermine bilateral relations. The Ministry stated that the move is a reciprocal response to Japan’s “unfriendly actions” and reiterated that Moscow reserves the right to adopt further measures if sanctions continue.
Japanese sanctions, introduced earlier this month, were part of coordinated efforts with international partners to pressure Russia over its foreign policy decisions. Moscow’s countermeasure highlights the deepening diplomatic rift and signals a prolonged period of strained relations between the two countries.
Officials emphasized that while Russia remains open to dialogue, it will firmly defend its national interests against external pressure. The Foreign Ministry added that the entry ban is consistent with international practice in responding to unilateral sanctions.
The development marks another chapter in the ongoing sanctions dispute, with both sides standing firm on their respective positions. Analysts suggest that the move could further complicate regional cooperation and diplomatic engagement in the near future.
