India will face Bhutan in the semi-final of the SAFF Women’s Championship today at the Fatorda Stadium in Margao, Goa. The clash comes after India topped Group B with emphatic wins over Maldives (11–0) and Bangladesh (3–0), maintaining an unbeaten run and clean sheet in the tournament.
Bhutan qualified for the semi-final after finishing second in Group A, setting up their first-ever knockout clash against India. The match is expected to highlight India’s attacking depth, with forwards Pyari Xaxa, Lynda Kom, and Malavika P in strong form, while goalkeeper Panthoi Chanu has been crucial in maintaining defensive solidity.
India’s head coach Crispin Chettri emphasized the importance of focus and discipline, noting that the team is determined to reclaim the SAFF title after a gap of several years. Bhutan, meanwhile, will look to create history by upsetting the defending champions in front of a passionate Goan crowd.
The winner of this semi-final will advance to the June 6 final, where they will face either Nepal or Bangladesh, who contest the other semi-final.
