The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast dense fog conditions across several parts of North India, warning that cold wave conditions are likely to persist over the coming days. The advisory highlights that visibility will remain severely affected during early morning and late-night hours, impacting road, rail, and air traffic.
According to IMD, states including Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar are expected to witness widespread fog, with minimum temperatures continuing to hover below normal levels. The cold wave is likely to intensify in isolated pockets, particularly in the plains.
Officials cautioned commuters to exercise care while traveling, as dense fog may reduce visibility to less than 50 meters in some regions. Flight and train schedules are expected to face disruptions due to poor visibility.
The IMD further noted that cold wave conditions are expected to persist for the next three to four days, with no immediate relief in sight. The department has advised residents to take precautionary measures, especially vulnerable groups such as children and the elderly.
Experts emphasized that prolonged cold wave conditions combined with dense fog can pose health risks, urging people to stay warm and avoid unnecessary exposure to extreme cold. The advisory also called for preparedness in transport and emergency services to mitigate the impact of adverse weather.
