The Election Commission of India (ECI) has extended the schedule for the ongoing Special Summary Revision (SSR) of electoral rolls in five states and Union Territories till January 19. The extension comes in view of requests from Chief Electoral Officers and to facilitate maximum participation of eligible citizens.
Officials stated that the revision exercise aims to ensure accuracy and inclusiveness in the electoral rolls ahead of upcoming elections. The process includes addition of new voters, deletion of ineligible entries, and correction of existing details.
The Commission emphasized that the extension will provide more time for citizens to verify and update their voter information. Booth Level Officers (BLOs) have been directed to intensify awareness campaigns and assist voters in completing the necessary formalities.
ECI reiterated its commitment to maintaining transparency and credibility in the electoral process, urging all eligible citizens to take advantage of the extended timeline to register or update their details.
