The United States and Iran are set to hold talks in Doha today over the Strait of Hormuz dispute, though uncertainty remains as both sides have issued conflicting statements about the scope of the engagement.
Washington has confirmed that its envoys are traveling to Doha to discuss ceasefire arrangements and maritime security in the strategic waterway, through which nearly 20 percent of global oil trade passes.
Tehran, however, has denied that formal negotiations are scheduled, clarifying that its delegation is focused on technical discussions related to frozen funds and implementation of a memorandum of understanding.
The talks come amid a fragile ceasefire strained by recent missile exchanges, raising concerns about renewed escalation in the Gulf region.
Qatar is hosting the discussions, positioning itself as a mediator in efforts to stabilize the Strait of Hormuz and prevent disruptions to global energy supplies.
