JAMMU, Nov 22: Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma has strongly criticized the proposed power tariff hike, describing it as an “electoral fraud” committed by the ruling National Conference (NC). He alleged that the move reflects betrayal of public trust and exposes the government’s insensitivity towards the hardships faced by citizens.
Addressing media persons, Sharma stated that the ruling party had promised relief and stability during elections but is now burdening households and businesses with increased tariffs. He argued that the proposal is politically motivated and undermines the credibility of the government’s commitments.
Sharma emphasized that the hike will disproportionately affect middle-class families, small traders, and rural consumers who are already struggling with rising costs. He warned that such measures could trigger widespread discontent and erode confidence in governance.
The Opposition leader demanded immediate withdrawal of the proposal and called for transparent consultation with stakeholders before any revision of tariffs. He urged the government to prioritize reforms in power distribution and efficiency rather than imposing financial strain on the public.
Sharma concluded by asserting that the Opposition will continue to raise the issue both inside and outside the Assembly, ensuring that the voices of the people are heard against what he termed as “electoral deception.”
