The final day of filing nominations for the April 23 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections saw a flurry of activity as top leaders from major political parties submitted their papers across the state. Former Chief Minister and AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami filed his nomination from Edappadi, while DMK veteran and State General Secretary Duraimurugan submitted his papers from Katpadi. DMDK leader Premalatha Vijayakanth and PMK’s Sowmya Anbumani also filed their nominations on the concluding day.
Senior BJP leaders, including Union Minister Dr. L. Murugan, former Telangana Governor Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan, and State BJP President Nainar Nagendran, filed nominations from their respective constituencies. The Election Commission reported that over 3,400 nominations were received statewide, with a significant surge recorded on the final day.
In total, more than five crore 67 lakh voters will decide the fate of candidates contesting across 234 Assembly constituencies. Scrutiny of nominations will take place tomorrow, and candidates will be allowed to withdraw their papers until April 9.
