Washington, March 17: US President Donald Trump has said that most NATO allies have declined to join the United States in its ongoing military operation against Iran. In a statement posted on Tuesday, Trump noted that Washington had been informed by “most of our NATO Allies” that they do not wish to participate in the campaign targeting what he described as the “Terrorist Regime of Iran.”
Trump reiterated that the US does not require allied military support, despite having previously urged NATO members and other global partners to assist in securing the Strait of Hormuz. He added that the US military’s “success” meant that outside help was no longer needed.
The remarks come amid heightened regional tensions and follow days of appeals from Washington for broader international backing. NATO has not issued a collective statement on the matter, and individual member states have maintained varied positions regarding involvement in the Iran conflict.
