Dense fog conditions have disrupted train services across several regions of the country, with visibility dropping sharply during the night and early morning hours. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has reported widespread fog over Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and parts of Odisha, leading to delays and rescheduling of multiple trains.
Railway officials said that dozens of trains have been running behind schedule due to poor visibility, while some services have been cancelled or diverted. Passengers have been advised to check updated schedules before travelling as operations continue to be affected.
According to IMD, dense to very dense fog is likely to persist in the Indo-Gangetic plains over the next few days, with minimum temperatures remaining below normal in many areas. The cold wave conditions have further intensified the impact of the fog, affecting both transport and daily life.
Authorities have urged travellers to exercise caution, while railway staff are working to minimise disruptions and ensure passenger safety. The prolonged fog spell has also raised concerns over agriculture and health, with experts advising protective measures against frost and respiratory issues.
The IMD has forecast gradual improvement in visibility after January 6, though intermittent foggy conditions may continue in isolated pockets.
