New Delhi, November 12, 2025: On the occasion of World Pneumonia Day, Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda reiterated the Government of India’s commitment to safeguard every child from pneumonia, a leading infectious cause of childhood mortality worldwide. The Minister emphasized that India remains focused on strengthening immunization, improving access to healthcare, and raising awareness to combat this preventable disease.
Addressing a gathering of health professionals and stakeholders, the Minister highlighted the importance of vaccines, early diagnosis, and timely treatment in reducing pneumonia-related deaths. He noted that the government’s initiatives under Mission Indradhanush and Ayushman Bharat are playing a crucial role in expanding coverage and ensuring equitable healthcare for children across the country.
“Our vision is clear — no child should suffer or lose their life due to pneumonia. We are committed to expanding preventive measures, enhancing treatment facilities, and empowering communities with knowledge to protect children from this disease,” said the Minister.
The Health Ministry also announced awareness campaigns and collaborative programs with state governments, NGOs, and international partners to strengthen pneumonia prevention and care. Special focus is being placed on vulnerable populations in rural and underserved regions.
World Pneumonia Day serves as a reminder of the global challenge posed by pneumonia and the collective responsibility to protect children. India’s reaffirmed commitment underscores the nation’s resolve to achieve better child health outcomes and contribute to the global fight against pneumonia.
