Doha, Jun 23: Qatari authorities have confirmed the deaths of 12 Indian nationals in the Ras Laffan industrial incident, the Indian Embassy in Doha said on Tuesday.
The tragedy occurred at the Ras Laffan gas processing facility, where a major accident led to multiple casualties. Officials stated that emergency teams were deployed immediately to contain the situation and provide medical assistance.
The Indian Embassy in Doha confirmed the fatalities and said it is working closely with Qatari authorities to ensure all necessary support for the victims’ families. “We are deeply saddened by the loss of 12 Indian nationals in the Ras Laffan incident. The Embassy is in touch with local authorities and employers to extend assistance,” the statement read.
National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi have been briefed on the incident, with India expressing condolences and seeking a detailed report from Qatar.
Officials said arrangements are being made for the repatriation of the mortal remains, and the Embassy has opened helplines for affected families.
The Ras Laffan facility, one of the world’s largest gas processing hubs, has witnessed heightened safety reviews following the accident. Qatari authorities assured that a thorough investigation is underway to determine the cause of the incident.
The Indian government reiterated its commitment to safeguarding the welfare of Indian workers abroad and called for enhanced safety measures at industrial sites employing expatriates.
