Seven Indian workers were killed and nine others injured in a tragic road accident in Dubai on June 8, 2026, when a minibus carrying them collided with a stationary truck on Emirates Road.
According to Dubai Police, the truck had stopped suddenly in the middle of the busy highway due to a technical fault. The minibus driver, unable to maintain a safe distance, rammed into the vehicle from behind, leading to severe casualties.
Officials confirmed that five of the injured are in critical condition, while four sustained moderate injuries. All victims were rushed to nearby hospitals for emergency treatment.
The Indian Consulate in Dubai expressed deep grief over the incident, stating that consular officials visited hospitals to meet the injured and are coordinating with UAE authorities to provide assistance and support to the victims’ families.
Dubai Police described the truck’s sudden halt as a “dangerous violation” of traffic rules, reiterating that stopping in the middle of the road is a major offence punishable by fines and penalty points.
The accident has raised concerns about road safety on Emirates Road, one of Dubai’s busiest highways, where sudden stoppages have previously led to fatal crashes.
Community members and expatriate groups have mourned the loss of the Indian workers, highlighting the vulnerability of migrant labourers who often commute long distances under challenging conditions.
The Indian mission is expected to coordinate the repatriation of the victims’ bodies and extend necessary support to their families in India.
