Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi on Monday said that India has emerged as the world’s third-largest producer of renewable energy, marking a significant milestone in the country’s clean energy journey.
Addressing an event, the minister said India’s rapid progress in the renewable sector reflects the government’s strong commitment to sustainable development and climate action under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Joshi highlighted that India has made substantial gains in solar, wind, hydro and bio-energy, driven by policy reforms, increased investment and large-scale capacity addition over the past decade. He said the country’s renewable energy capacity has grown at an unprecedented pace, strengthening energy security and reducing dependence on fossil fuels.
The minister also underlined India’s ambitious targets, including achieving 500 GW of non-fossil fuel-based energy capacity by 2030, in line with its international climate commitments. He said these efforts are positioning India as a global leader in the clean energy transition.
Joshi noted that the renewable energy push has also generated employment opportunities, boosted domestic manufacturing under the ‘Make in India’ initiative, and contributed to inclusive economic growth.
He reaffirmed the government’s resolve to further accelerate renewable energy deployment through innovation, grid integration, storage solutions and international cooperation, ensuring affordable and reliable clean energy for all.
