In Pahalgam, Anantnag district, 42‑year‑old Mohammad Ashraf Mir from Srinagar drowned in the Lidder River after jumping in to save his son Fahad, who had slipped while taking photographs. Locals managed to rescue the boy, but Mir was swept away by strong currents. SDRF and rafting units launched search operations to recover his body.
In Tangmarg, Baramulla district, three‑year‑old Abu Bakar, son of Mohammad Younis, fell into a canal near Chanapora. He was pulled out and rushed to hospital, but doctors declared him dead on arrival.
In Bandipora district, a young man drowned after slipping into a stream along with his father. While the father was rescued and treated, the son’s body was recovered hours later following an extensive search.
Authorities have urged residents to exercise extreme caution near water bodies, stressing that strong currents in rivers and canals pose serious risks. They advised parents to closely supervise children and avoid risky rescue attempts without trained personnel.
