At least 20 people lost their lives and dozens were injured in a devastating fire that broke out at a hotel-restaurant in Delhi’s Malviya Nagar on Wednesday morning. The blaze, which engulfed the Lemon Green Restaurant in the Hauz Rani area, prompted a massive rescue operation with ten fire tenders rushing to the site. Authorities confirmed that 37 people were evacuated and hospitalized, while several remain in critical condition.
Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy, calling the incident “deeply distressing.” He extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for strength and courage to overcome the irreparable loss. He also wished for the speedy recovery of those injured in the blaze.
Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu also conveyed grief and directed officials to provide immediate medical aid and relief to victims. He ordered a thorough investigation into the incident, stressing the importance of strict fire safety compliance in public establishments. Rescue teams reported that some victims attempted to jump from upper floors to escape the flames, underscoring the severity of the situation.
