India on Saturday dispatched another 11 tonnes of relief material to flood-affected Nepal as part of its ongoing humanitarian assistance to the neighbouring country. The latest consignment includes medicines, forensic supplies, tents, hygiene kits, sleeping bags and other essential items to support communities affected by the devastating floods.
The relief supplies were transported to Nepal aboard an Indian Air Force aircraft and handed over to the Nepali side. This was the ninth Indian Air Force flight carrying relief material to Nepal since the disaster struck, according to the Ministry of External Affairs.
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar said India remains committed to supporting Nepal’s recovery. He highlighted the latest consignment as part of India’s continuing humanitarian assistance under its Neighbourhood First approach.
The assistance includes essential medical supplies as well as forensic materials needed for ongoing relief and identification operations. Tents, hygiene kits and sleeping bags have also been provided to help meet the immediate requirements of people affected by the floods.
India’s latest assistance comes as Nepal continues search, rescue and relief operations following severe flash floods that caused widespread destruction across several areas. The disaster has resulted in a large number of deaths and missing persons, while rescue teams continue to work in difficult conditions.
According to officials, India has now sent more than 130 tonnes of relief material to Nepal and deployed 54 expert personnel to assist with rescue, relief and forensic operations. Indian teams have also supported specialised operations, including tunnel rescue and forensic identification efforts.
India’s relief operation began soon after the floods struck in late August. Earlier consignments included temporary shelters, blankets, hygiene kits, medicines, solar lamps, generators, dewatering pumps, kitchen sets and other emergency supplies. Subsequent flights carried specialised rescue equipment and forensic materials based on requirements from the Nepali authorities.
The continuing assistance reflects India’s efforts to support Nepal’s immediate humanitarian needs and recovery following the floods. The latest consignment of 11 tonnes adds to the series of relief measures being provided as Nepal continues its recovery and rehabilitation operations.
