The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued weather alerts indicating stagnant atmospheric conditions, low wind speed, and temperature inversion — all contributing to the accumulation of pollutants near the surface. These factors are expected to prolong the poor air quality over the next few days, with minimal dispersion of particulate matter.
Authorities have advised residents to limit outdoor activities, especially during early morning and evening hours when pollution levels tend to spike. In response to the deteriorating conditions, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has directed the implementation of Stage III restrictions under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP), which includes curbs on construction activities, increased mechanized road cleaning, and intensified pollution control measures across industrial zones.
Environmental experts have reiterated the need for long-term solutions, including stricter vehicular emission norms, enhanced public transport infrastructure, and regional coordination to tackle stubble burning in neighboring states.
