India has achieved 99.6 per cent electrification of its Broad Gauge railway network, marking a historic milestone in sustainable transport and infrastructure development.
The achievement reflects Indian Railways’ accelerated push toward complete electrification, reducing dependence on fossil fuels and cutting carbon emissions across the country’s vast rail system.
Officials noted that the near-complete electrification will enhance efficiency, lower operating costs, and contribute significantly to India’s climate goals under the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
With this milestone, India now stands among the world’s leading nations in railway electrification, reinforcing its commitment to modern, eco-friendly transport solutions.
