The Agriculture Ministry has announced that the total area sown under Rabi crops in the country has crossed 580 lakh hectares, reflecting strong progress in the current season. Officials highlighted that favorable weather conditions and timely availability of inputs have contributed to the expansion of cultivation.
According to ministry data, wheat continues to dominate Rabi sowing, accounting for the largest share of acreage, followed by pulses, oilseeds, and coarse cereals. The increase in sown area is expected to support food security and stabilize supplies in the coming months.
Authorities noted that improved irrigation facilities and government support measures, including subsidies and extension services, have encouraged farmers to expand cultivation. The ministry emphasized that the sowing figures indicate resilience in the agricultural sector despite challenges posed by climate variability.
Analysts believe that the rise in Rabi acreage will strengthen India’s agricultural output, providing a buffer against inflationary pressures and ensuring adequate stocks for domestic consumption. The development is also expected to boost rural incomes and contribute to overall economic stability.
Officials concluded that monitoring of crop conditions will continue, with efforts focused on ensuring farmers receive necessary support throughout the season.
