Campaigning has picked up pace for the upcoming Assembly elections in four states—Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and West Bengal—along with the Union Territory of Puducherry.
Major parties are intensifying their efforts with rallies, roadshows, and candidate announcements ahead of polling. Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently held a roadshow in Puducherry, while the BJP has released its candidate list for Tamil Nadu as part of the AIADMK-led alliance.
The Congress, contesting in alliance with the DMK in Tamil Nadu, has announced candidates for nearly all its allotted constituencies. In Assam, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has flagged issues like the Uniform Civil Code and “love jihad” laws as part of the poll agenda.
Polling will be held in phases across the states and Puducherry in April, with counting scheduled for May 4, 2026. Security arrangements are being strengthened to ensure smooth conduct of elections.
The contests are expected to be high-stakes, with Tamil Nadu and West Bengal drawing particular national attention due to their political significance and alliance dynamics.
