Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday launched a sharp attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi during an Eid-ul-Fitr congregation at Red Road, calling him the “biggest infiltrator” and warning that citizens’ voting rights were under threat.
Addressing thousands gathered for Eid prayers, Banerjee alleged that the BJP-led Centre was attempting to snatch away voting rights through voter roll revisions. She accused the government of trying to polarize politics ahead of elections.
The Trinamool Congress supremo vowed to continue standing by the people of Bengal against what she termed BJP’s capture of democratic institutions. Her remarks come amid tensions over the Election Commission’s voter list revision exercise.
Banerjee, accompanied by senior party leaders including Abhishek Banerjee, used the festive occasion to reiterate her stance against the BJP, framing the battle as one to protect democracy and the rights of ordinary citizens.
