Israel has carried out targeted strikes in Beirut, killing two high-profile figures.
Abu Hamza Rami, a senior commander of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ), was eliminated in the Lebanese capital. The IDF stated his death significantly weakens PIJ’s operational capacity against Israel.
In a separate strike, Hussein Makled, head of Hezbollah’s intelligence headquarters, was also killed.
The operations were part of Israel’s “Operation Northern Arrows,” targeting PIJ and Hezbollah networks operating along the Syria-Lebanon border. Abu Hamza Rami was accused of orchestrating hundreds of attacks against Israeli troops and civilians, including recruitment and weapons procurement.
Israel claims these eliminations will degrade both PIJ and Hezbollah’s ability to coordinate cross-border operations.
Lebanon’s capital has now become a direct theater of confrontation, raising fears of wider escalation. Hezbollah may retaliate, potentially drawing Lebanon deeper into the conflict.
The strikes highlight Israel’s strategy of decapitation attacks against militant leadership to disrupt command structures.
