Chennai, December 1: At least eleven people were killed and fifty-four others injured when a passenger bus met with an accident in Tamil Nadu late Sunday night, officials confirmed.
The mishap occurred near a highway stretch when the bus lost control and overturned. Rescue teams rushed to the spot and shifted the injured to nearby hospitals, where several remain under treatment.
Chief Minister M.K. Stalin expressed grief over the tragedy and announced a solatium of Rs 5 lakh each to the families of the deceased. He also directed officials to ensure the best possible medical care for the injured.
Authorities said preliminary investigations point to overspeeding as a possible cause, though a detailed inquiry has been ordered. Senior police and district officials visited the site and supervised relief operations.
The state government assured that all necessary support will be extended to the victims’ families and that measures will be taken to prevent such accidents in the future.
