SRINAGAR: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has refuted claims of a 20% hike in peak hour electricity rates, terming the reports as misleading and unfounded. He clarified that no such proposal has been approved by the government and assured that consumer interests remain a top priority.
The CM emphasised that the administration is committed to maintaining transparency in tariff policies and will not impose any additional burden on households without due consultation and regulatory review. He noted that the government is working to improve power supply and efficiency rather than increasing costs for consumers.
Omar Abdullah reiterated that the focus remains on strengthening infrastructure, reducing transmission losses, and ensuring reliable electricity to both urban and rural areas. He urged the public not to be misled by speculative reports and assured that any changes in tariff structures will be communicated officially.
The statement is seen as an effort to restore public confidence and reaffirm the government’s commitment to fair and accountable governance in the power sector.
