Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has said that had India carried out an Operation Sindoor-like strike after the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, no one would have dared to target the country again.
Speaking at a remembrance event at the Gateway of India on November 22, 2025, Fadnavis described the assault on Mumbai’s Taj and Trident hotels as an attack on India’s sovereignty, given the city’s role as the nation’s economic capital.
He emphasized that a decisive military response would have deterred future attacks, noting that “had we understood this and shown the courage to conduct an Operation Sindoor then, nobody would have dared to attack us again.”
Recalling the events of November 26, 2008, when terrorists infiltrated Mumbai via the sea and killed 166 people, Fadnavis said that even after 17 years, the pain of the tragedy remains in the hearts of citizens.
The Chief Minister’s remarks highlight the continuing significance of the 26/11 attacks in India’s security narrative and the importance of strong deterrence against terrorism.
