In a major cultural event ahead of the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections, Kolkata is set to host a mass recitation of the Bhagavad Gita with the participation of nearly five lakh people. Organizers have announced that the programme will take place at the city’s iconic Brigade Parade Ground, marking one of the largest collective recitations ever planned in the state.
The event is being coordinated by spiritual and cultural organizations with support from local committees, aiming to showcase Bengal’s rich tradition of devotional gatherings. Participants from across districts are expected to join, with arrangements being made for accommodation, transport, and security.
Officials stated that the recitation will be conducted in synchrony, with verses of the Gita being read aloud collectively to symbolize unity and devotion. The programme will also feature cultural performances and discourses by prominent spiritual leaders.
