Five newly appointed judges of the Supreme Court of India are taking oath today, June 2, 2026, at 10:30 AM in New Delhi.
The ceremony is being administered by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant at the Supreme Court’s Administrative Buildings Complex.
With this, the working strength of the apex court rises to 37 out of the sanctioned 38 judges.
The new judges include Justice Sheel Nagu, Justice Shree Chandrashekhar, Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva, Justice Arun Palli, and Senior Advocate Venkita Subramani Mohana.
V. Mohana’s elevation is historic, as she becomes only the second woman in India’s history to be directly appointed from the Bar to the Supreme Court.
These appointments are expected to ease case backlogs and strengthen constitutional benches in the apex court.
