New Delhi, July 4: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan today paid heartfelt tributes to Swami Vivekananda on his death anniversary, observed as Nirvana Diwas. Both leaders hailed his unmatched contribution to Indian culture, spirituality, and national consciousness, emphasizing his enduring inspiration for the youth and nation-building.
Prime Minister Modi said Vivekananda’s role in giving global recognition to Indian culture and spirituality was “incomparable.” He noted that Vivekananda’s intellect and inspiring thoughts continue to guide millions of young people and provide new energy in realizing the vision of a Viksit Bharat (Developed India).
Vice President Radhakrishnan described Vivekananda as a great patriot, philosopher, and spiritual visionary who rekindled India’s civilisational consciousness and carried timeless wisdom to the world. He urged citizens to uphold character, serve with dedication, and remain steadfast in nation-building.
Home Minister Amit Shah also paid tribute, praising Vivekananda for reintroducing Vedanta and igniting patriotism among youth. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh highlighted his message of patriotism, social service, and character building. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge called him a “great thinker” who brought spiritual consciousness to the global stage.
Born on January 12, 1863, as Narendranath Datta, Vivekananda passed away on July 4, 1902. Founder of the Ramakrishna Mission, he gained international fame with his 1893 Chicago address at the World’s Parliament of Religions, where he spoke on the universality of religions and service to humanity. His teachings on youth empowerment, equality, and self-confidence remain pillars of India’s national spirit.
