The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued the latest nationwide forecast, highlighting dense fog, cold wave conditions, and snowfall across northern and central India, while southern and coastal regions remain largely stable with mild temperatures.
In Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand, light to moderate rainfall and snowfall are expected, accompanied by severe cold wave conditions. Minimum temperatures are likely to dip significantly below normal levels.
Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar will experience dense to very dense fog during mornings and nights, leading to poor visibility and possible disruptions in travel. Severe cold wave conditions are also forecast for these states.
In eastern and northeastern states, including Assam and adjoining regions, minimum temperatures are expected to fall by 2–3 degrees Celsius over the next two days, with foggy mornings reducing visibility.
Central India, covering Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, will see a drop in minimum temperatures by 1–2 degrees Celsius. Dry weather will prevail, with cold mornings dominating the region.
In the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, isolated thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds of 30–40 kmph are likely between December 27 and December 31. Southern states including Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka will witness mostly dry weather with mild temperatures.
Western India, particularly northern Rajasthan, will face cold wave conditions, while Gujarat will remain dry with chilly nights.
The IMD has advised caution for travelers due to dense fog in northern and eastern states, while health advisories have been issued for vulnerable groups affected by the cold wave. Snowfall in hill states may attract tourists but could also lead to road blockages.
