Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri has firmly dismissed reports claiming that India and Pakistan are engaged in a Track-2 dialogue. He clarified that such events are privately organized and involve retired officials or civil society members, not representatives of the Government of India. Misri stressed that these informal interactions hold no official value and cannot be considered dialogue between the two countries.
Speaking on the sidelines of his overseas engagements, Misri reiterated that India has not participated in any Track-2 initiatives and that the government does not endorse or recognize them. His remarks followed speculation about informal exchanges between individuals from both nations during regional conferences. He emphasized that India’s position remains unchanged: there will be no talks with Pakistan until concrete action is taken against cross-border terrorism.
The clarification comes at a time when bilateral relations remain tense, particularly after recent terror incidents that have further strained ties. By distancing the government from Track-2 activities, Misri reinforced India’s commitment to formal, government-level diplomacy as the only legitimate channel for engagement with Pakistan.
His statement has been widely noted in diplomatic circles, highlighting India’s consistent messaging on Pakistan and its focus on national security priorities.
