The relationship between the United States and China is a key barometer of global stability and must be managed through what was described as controlled competition, Anwar Gargash, Diplomatic Advisor to the President of the United Arab Emirates, has said. Speaking at an international forum, he stressed that how the two major powers handle their relationship will have a significant impact on global peace, security and economic stability.
Mr. Gargash highlighted the importance of dialogue and diplomacy in managing competition between major powers. He said that rivalry should not lead to conflict and that cooperation is essential to address shared global challenges. He also underlined the continued relevance of nuclear arms control and called for renewed efforts to strengthen existing frameworks and agreements.
Referring to developments in West Asia, Mr. Gargash said that resolving the Palestinian issue remains central to achieving long-term regional stability. He clarified that reports suggesting the UAE might take on a civilian administrative role in Gaza were incorrect, while reaffirming the country’s commitment to humanitarian assistance and regional peace efforts.
He noted that global power dynamics are undergoing rapid change and that the manner in which the US and China manage their strategic competition will influence international relations far beyond their bilateral ties. He emphasised that constructive engagement, restraint and cooperation are vital to maintaining global stability in the years ahead.
