India dominated the World Yogasana Championships 2026 in Ahmedabad, securing five gold medals and maintaining its top position in the global medal tally.
West Bengal’s Abhay Burman won gold in the senior male traditional category with 63.42 points, while Ritu Mondal clinched gold in the senior female traditional category with 64.33 points, both outperforming strong international competitors.
Other gold medalists included Ritu Thakur in the senior A female category, Roshan Thapa in the senior B male category, and Jyoti Deurkar in the twisting body individual senior B female category, reinforcing India’s dominance in Yogasana sports.
Singapore’s Nathaniel Tan Leong An prevented a complete Indian sweep by winning gold in the senior A male category, while athletes from Kazakhstan, Indonesia, Argentina, Bangladesh, and Oman secured silver and bronze medals across different events.
The championship, held at Eka Arena in Gujarat, marked the first-ever World Yogasana Championships, highlighting Yogasana’s transition from cultural practice to competitive international sport.
Indian athletes credited home support and years of training for their victories, with Ritu Mondal calling her gold medal “a dream come true” and Abhay Burman describing his win as “a moment I will cherish forever.”
