The Indian Army has launched Operation Him Setu to evacuate stranded tourists following a massive landslide in North Sikkim. The landslide, triggered by heavy rainfall, blocked key routes and left hundreds of visitors cut off in the region’s remote areas.
Army personnel swiftly mobilized rescue teams, deploying vehicles, medical support, and engineering units to clear debris and ensure safe passage. Helicopter services were also pressed into action to airlift vulnerable groups, including women, children, and elderly tourists.
Officials stated that the operation reflects the Army’s commitment to humanitarian assistance and disaster relief, particularly in high-altitude terrains where civilian access is limited. The evacuation efforts are being coordinated with local authorities to provide shelter, food, and medical care to those affected.
