The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has secured the extradition of fugitive Mohammad Navas Kakkat Ismail from the United Arab Emirates, bringing him back to India to face trial. Ismail was wanted by the Delhi Police for serious charges including extortion, cheating, forgery, impersonation, and involvement in an organized crime syndicate.
Following the issuance of an Interpol Red Notice by the CBI, Ismail was traced and detained by UAE authorities. After coordinated efforts involving the Ministry of External Affairs and the Ministry of Home Affairs, he was extradited to India and arrived at Indira Gandhi International Airport on May 4, 2026.
Upon arrival, Ismail was handed over to Delhi Police officials, who will pursue legal proceedings against him under Indian law. His extradition marks another success in India’s efforts to bring fugitives to justice through international cooperation.
Officials highlighted that India has extradited more than 150 fugitives in recent years, underscoring the country’s growing effectiveness in tackling organized crime and reinforcing its credibility in global law enforcement collaboration.
The case sends a strong message to criminal syndicates that fugitives cannot escape justice by fleeing abroad, and demonstrates India’s commitment to pursuing offenders across borders.
