The Central Bureau of Investigation has intensified its probe into the NEET-UG 2026 paper leak case, arresting nine individuals across multiple states, including senior academics and alleged masterminds. Investigators are focusing on tracing the source of the leak and dismantling the organized network behind it.
Among those arrested is PV Kulkarni, identified as a key conspirator, and Manisha Gurunath Mandhare, a Pune-based botany professor linked to the National Testing Agency. Mandhare allegedly conducted special coaching sessions where leaked questions were shared with students ahead of the May 3 examination.
Digital evidence including laptops, mobile phones, and bank records has been seized during nationwide raids. The CBI informed the court that the case involves an organized paper leak syndicate, with several co-accused yet to be identified.
An FIR was registered on May 12 under charges of criminal conspiracy, cheating, breach of trust, corruption, and violations of the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024. Mandhare has been remanded to 14 days of CBI custody to trace financial transactions and digital trails.
The NEET examination, taken by over 20 lakh aspirants, is India’s most competitive medical entrance test. The leak has triggered nationwide protests, raising concerns about transparency and the credibility of the National Testing Agency. Political parties and student groups have demanded accountability and reforms in exam security protocols.
