New Delhi, Jun 23: External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar has expressed deep grief over the loss of lives in the explosion at Qatar’s Ras Laffan Industrial City, where several Indian nationals were among the victims.
In a statement, EAM Jaishankar conveyed heartfelt condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and wished a speedy recovery to the injured. “We are deeply saddened by the tragic incident at Ras Laffan. Our thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved families,” he said.
The Minister assured that the Government of India, through the Embassy in Doha, is closely coordinating with Qatari authorities to provide all possible assistance, including support for the repatriation of mortal remains and medical care for the injured.
Jaishankar emphasized that the welfare of Indian nationals abroad remains a top priority and that the government will extend every necessary help to affected families.
Officials confirmed that the Indian Embassy in Doha has opened emergency helplines and is in touch with employers and local authorities to facilitate relief measures.
The Ras Laffan facility, one of the world’s largest gas processing hubs, has come under scrutiny following the incident, with Qatari authorities pledging a thorough investigation into the cause of the explosion.
India reiterated its commitment to safeguarding the interests of its citizens overseas and called for enhanced safety protocols at industrial sites employing expatriates.
