The Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) has unveiled plans to mobilise investments worth ₹1 lakh crore in West Bengal through its member companies, marking a significant push to strengthen the state’s industrial and economic landscape.
ICC President Brij Bhushan Aggarwal, along with a delegation, presented the proposal to Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh in New Delhi. The chamber emphasised that this initiative reflects renewed optimism in West Bengal’s economy and aims to foster collaboration between the Centre and the state government to create a favourable ecosystem for enterprise.
The investment plan is expected to span multiple sectors, including manufacturing, infrastructure, IT, and renewable energy, though detailed sectoral allocations are yet to be announced. ICC highlighted West Bengal’s strategic location as a gateway to eastern and northeastern India, making it an attractive destination for large-scale industrial projects.
Potential benefits include accelerated GDP growth, job creation, and enhanced regional development. However, challenges such as infrastructure bottlenecks, policy stability, and execution gaps remain key factors that will determine the success of this ambitious plan.
This announcement comes in the backdrop of similar large-scale commitments made during past summits, such as the Bengal Global Business Summit, where MoUs worth several lakh crores were signed, though many are still in the pipeline. ICC’s initiative seeks to convert investment intent into tangible projects with measurable impact.
