Jammu and Kashmir Police has launched a state-of-the-art Artificial Intelligence (AI)-enabled security grid to strengthen internal security across the Union Territory. The initiative marks a significant leap in technological integration for law enforcement in one of India’s most sensitive regions.
The AI-backed system is designed to enhance surveillance, intelligence gathering, and rapid response mechanisms along border areas and hinterland zones. It will support predictive policing, automated pattern recognition, and advanced monitoring to counter infiltration attempts and terror activities.
Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat announced that the J&K Police has signed a memorandum of understanding with IIT Jammu to develop the grid. The collaboration will focus on deploying AI tools in forensics, evidence analysis, and data-driven decision-making, ensuring faster and more accurate investigations.
The initiative stems from deliberations at the recent Pan-India Directors General and Inspectors General of Police Conference in Raipur, where the Prime Minister highlighted the importance of artificial intelligence in national security while stressing ethical boundaries in its use.
Officials said the AI-enabled grid will help identify suspicious movements, track terror financing networks, and strengthen coordination among agencies. It is expected to transform how the police operate in Jammu and Kashmir’s challenging security landscape.
The move reflects the government’s commitment to leveraging advanced technology to safeguard citizens, while ensuring that AI systems remain aligned with values and accountability. Security experts believe the grid will significantly improve preparedness against evolving threats.
