JAMMU: Secretary, Transport, Jammu & Kashmir, Avny Lavasa, has directed officials to ensure effective implementation of the Registered Vehicle Scrapping Policy across the Union Territory. She emphasised the importance of generating awareness among vehicle owners about the benefits of scrapping old and unfit vehicles through Registered Vehicle Scrapping Facilities (RVSFs).
The policy, guided by the Motor Vehicle (Registration and Functions of Vehicle Scrapping Facility) Rules, 2021, aims to reduce pollution, enhance road safety, and foster a circular economy through responsible recycling. Lavasa underscored that the initiative will also stimulate business growth, generate employment, and improve efficiency in the automotive sector.
She called for widespread publicity campaigns to ensure that the general public, particularly owners of vehicles older than 15 years, are fully informed about the incentives available under the scheme. The Secretary further directed transport officers to expedite establishment of scrapping facilities and streamline deregistration procedures.
Earlier this month, Lavasa visited Pulwama to review the functioning of the Transport Department, where she stressed efficient service delivery, strict enforcement of rules, and enhanced public outreach to make transport-related services easily accessible to citizens.
