New Delhi, October 31, 2025 — Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has reiterated his call for a nationwide ban on the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), stating that the organization is responsible for many of the law and order issues in the country.
Speaking at a press conference in the capital, Kharge said, “It is my personal opinion, and I say it openly — the RSS should be banned. Most of the law and order problems stem from their activities and influence.”
Kharge also criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi for allowing government employees to associate with the RSS, calling it a disrespect to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s legacy. He cited Patel’s decision to ban the RSS in 1948 following the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi as a precedent.
The Congress leader’s remarks came in response to Modi’s comments on Patel’s birth anniversary, where the Prime Minister accused the Congress of not following Patel’s vision for national unity.
Kharge defended the Congress’s historical role in India’s freedom movement and emphasized that criticism of the RSS should not be equated with disrespecting national values.
The statement has sparked political debate, with BJP leaders accusing the Congress of hypocrisy and misusing Patel’s legacy for partisan purposes.
