Mumbai, November 5, 2025 — Maharashtra has become the first Indian state to officially partner with Starlink Satellite Communications Pvt. Ltd. to provide satellite-based internet services in remote and underserved regions.
The agreement, signed in Mumbai between the Government of Maharashtra and Starlink’s leadership team, aims to bridge the digital divide by delivering high-speed, low-latency internet to aspirational districts such as Gadchiroli, Nandurbar, Washim, and Dharashiv.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis hailed the collaboration as a transformative step toward digital inclusion, stating that the initiative will empower rural communities with access to education, healthcare, e-governance, and emergency services through reliable connectivity.
Starlink, a division of Elon Musk’s SpaceX, will deploy its satellite infrastructure to support Maharashtra’s Digital Mission, with a focus on tribal areas and regions lacking terrestrial broadband coverage. The project will also enhance disaster response capabilities and support smart governance initiatives.
This partnership marks Starlink’s first formal engagement with a state government in India and is expected to serve as a model for similar collaborations nationwide.
