Thousands Protest Crime and Corruption in Mexico City as “Gen Z” Movement Gains Momentum
Mexico City witnessed large-scale demonstrations on November 15, 2025, as thousands of protesters rallied against rising crime, corruption, and impunity. The protests, led by Generation Z activists, drew support from older opposition party members and spread to nearly 50 cities nationwide.
Anger over the recent killing of Michoacán Mayor Carlos Manzo served as a catalyst for the demonstrations, which highlight growing frustration with systemic failures in governance. While the protests were largely peaceful during the day, clashes erupted in the evening between demonstrators and riot police, resulting in 120 injuries, including 100 police officers, and 20 arrests.
Organizers emphasized that the movement reflects a broader global trend of youth-led activism, with Generation Z increasingly mobilizing against inequality and corruption. The protests underscore mounting pressure on President Claudia Sheinbaum’s administration to address public concerns over violence and accountability.
