The National Commission for Women (NCW) has submitted its report on the rights of Muslim women in India to the concerned ministries, highlighting key recommendations for safeguarding equality and dignity. The report addresses issues of personal law, access to education, healthcare, and economic opportunities, while stressing the need for reforms that align with constitutional guarantees.
NCW Chairperson Rekha Sharma stated that the findings were based on consultations with stakeholders, community representatives, and legal experts. The report underscores challenges faced by Muslim women in matters of marriage, divorce, inheritance, and maintenance, and calls for stronger legal protections and awareness campaigns.
The ministries are expected to review the recommendations and consider policy measures to ensure that Muslim women benefit from government schemes and reforms without discrimination. The submission marks a significant step in advancing gender justice and inclusivity within minority communities.
By placing the report before ministries, NCW has reinforced its role as a statutory body committed to protecting women’s rights across diverse social and religious contexts.
