Jammu & Kashmir, November 2, 2025 — The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has granted clearance for a proposed cable car project in Baisaran, Pahalgam, following a request from the Union Territory administration. The site had previously witnessed a tragic incident in April, prompting a security review before project approval.
The Jammu and Kashmir Government had sought the NIA’s opinion due to its ongoing investigation into the April 22 attack. Officials confirmed that the agency raised no objections from an investigative standpoint, allowing the project to move forward.
According to government sources, the 1.4-kilometer cable car alignment has been identified by the Jammu and Kashmir Cable Car Corporation (JKCCC), with the lower terminal near Yatri Niwas and the upper terminal at Baisaran. The required land, approximately 9.13 hectares, belongs to the Forest Department.
The JKCCC has finalized tenders and awarded the project to Ronmas India Pvt. Ltd. An agreement has been signed, but work has been delayed due to the post-incident environment in Pahalgam. The executing agency has requested permission to conduct topographical and geotechnical studies at the site.
The Department of Tourism stated that the Deputy Commissioner of Anantnag has been approached to facilitate the site visit, with coordination involving the NIA. The project is estimated to cost between ₹100–120 crore and is expected to be completed within 18 months once initiated.
Government officials reiterated their commitment to enhancing tourism infrastructure while ensuring safety and due diligence in sensitive zones.
