Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president and former Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has appealed to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) to take urgent steps for the safe return of Indian students stranded in Iran. She highlighted that thousands of students, including many from Kashmir, are facing uncertainty amid the volatile situation in the country.
In her statement, Mehbooba Mufti urged External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar to intervene and coordinate evacuation measures. She stressed that the government must act swiftly to safeguard the lives of young Indians studying abroad, noting that parents are deeply anxious about their children’s safety.
The appeal comes after the Indian Embassy in Tehran issued an advisory asking Indian nationals, including students and pilgrims, to leave Iran at the earliest due to the deteriorating security environment. The advisory has intensified concerns among families in Jammu & Kashmir and other parts of India.
Officials indicated that the MEA is closely monitoring the situation and is expected to announce measures to facilitate the safe passage of stranded students back to India.
