Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reiterated the government’s firm commitment to take strict action against those responsible for the NEET paper leak, calling the incident a “grave sin” and a matter of national concern.
Addressing the NDA Parliamentary Party meeting on July 21, 2026, PM Modi said that the future of over 50 lakh students cannot be compromised and assured that the guilty will face the strictest punishment.
Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju confirmed that 13 individuals have already been arrested and jailed in connection with the leak, while a NEET re-examination was conducted promptly to protect students’ interests.
PM Modi stressed that paper leaks should not be politicised and urged both central and state governments to work together to eliminate such crimes. He directed that top legal counsel be engaged to ensure exemplary punishment for the accused.
The Prime Minister also highlighted the government’s focus on building a transparent, error-free, and secure examination system, terming it a national responsibility. Measures such as tighter question paper transportation, better encryption, and increased accountability for exam centres are expected to be implemented.
His remarks mark a shift from immediate damage control to long-term reforms aimed at restoring credibility in India’s competitive examinations, including NEET, JEE, CUET, and UGC NET.
