Ferozepur, Nov 27: A key accused in the murder of RSS leader Baldev Raj Arora’s son, Naveen Arora, was killed in a gunfight on Thursday when his two accomplices attempted to free him from police custody at Mahamujohia village, officials said.
The accused, Badal of Basti Bhattian, had been arrested on Wednesday in connection with the November 15 incident in which Naveen Arora was shot dead by two motorcycle-borne assailants in Ferozepur. During questioning, Badal disclosed the names of his associates, Raju and Sonu, and claimed to have hidden weapons near the cremation ground in Mahamujohia.
Police said that while escorting Badal to the site, his accomplices opened fire in an attempt to secure his release. The police retaliated in self-defence, during which Badal sustained bullet injuries and was taken to hospital, where he was declared dead.
Deputy Inspector General of Police, Ferozepur Range, Harmanbir Singh Gill confirmed the sequence of events, while Senior Superintendent of Police Bhupinder Singh said special teams had been formed immediately after the murder to trace the culprits. Technical intelligence, human intelligence, CCTV footage, and witness statements were used to identify the suspects.
During the exchange of fire, Head Constable Balor Singh was injured, while a bullet struck the bullet-proof jacket of Constable Gurmeet Singh. The two assailants managed to escape under cover of dense fog and darkness, police said.
Authorities confirmed that three other accused — Harsh, Kannav, and Gursimran Singh alias Jatin alias Kali, all residents of Basti Bhattian — have already been arrested in connection with the murder. Search operations are underway to apprehend the remaining suspects.
